WeeOkie Farm
is a small, family operated facility just northwest of Oklahoma City, OK. We strive
to have approximately 15 quality mini horse foals each year. The
foals are imprinted at birth and handled daily. All foals are put up in the barn at
night through their first winter. They are pampered and loved!!
It all began one beautiful autumn weekend in 1989. After
church that Sunday, I asked where we were going out to eat (as was our custom) and Bryan,
our 15 year old son, suggested we go back to the fairgrounds to see the miniature horses
again. Mind you, we had just been there the day before to get our first look
at the minis at the AMHA National Show. Being the good parents that Hugh and I were,
we took him back, not knowing that he had met Tony Greaves on Saturday and picked out a
little 4 month old colt that he just had to have as a pet. At that time we lived in a
rather exclusive suburb of Oklahoma City, and horses were definitely against the
covenants, but nonetheless we loaded our first mini, Little America's Howdy Doody, in the
back of our S-10 Blazer and took him to his new home. Half the backyard was fenced
off for him, with half the storage building his stable. Fortunately, the neighbors
didn't report us, and the kids thought he was just great. They would ring the
doorbell and ask if they could go out back to play with Howdy.
Howdy wintered in Westbury just fine and we thoroughly enjoyed him. In the spring,
the Oklahoma Miniature Horse Club had a clinic and Howdy was chosen to be the subject for
the clipping demonstration. He looked so cute and so thin (we had thought he was fat
with all that hair). Bryan decided he wanted to try showing him, so Howdy goes off
to his first show where a small Texas trainer wants him in his show string. And off Howdy
goes to the big time! Bryan was able to live with and work for the trainer that
summer. He learned a lot from that experience, and later taught "Mom" how
to clip, groom, show, etc. By year's end our little "pet" had won Honor
Roll in Solid Color Stallions/Geldings, though each time he was clipped he seemed to be a
different color, as silver dapple bays do. The next year, 1991, Howdy was gelded,
and placed Top Ten at AMHA Nationals in 2 Year Old Geldings. So our pet turned out
to be quite a show horse and a real learning experience!
Our First Mini, Little America's Howdy Doody
In the spring of 1991, we decided we wanted to get
into the breeding part of miniatures and started shopping for an acreage and bred mares.
We found both and WeeOkie Farm was born (a wee farm for wee horses in Oklahoma).
Before we could get our fencing completed and the first two mares moved to our
place, one of them delivered a gorgeous primitive dun filly. She was born in Ada,
OK, and was named WeeOkie's Star of Ada. Ada turned out to be our second show horse.
And, oh, could she sparkle in those color classes!
Our First Foal, WeeOkie's Star of Ada
Our son Bryan is grown now and he and wife Tiffany
have presented us with our next generation "Miniature Horse Lover." Thomas
Alan Jenkins (TJ) was foaled, I mean born, September 6, 2000. Watch out - here
comes TJ!!
"My first pony"
